Cybercrime in finance and insurance

Canada’s federally regulated financial institutions are required to report any cybersecurity incident to the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) as soon as possible. They must do so within 72 hours of determining that the incident causes serious harm to their operations, data, clients and privacy. This requires them to take a proactive approach to counter potential cyberattacks.

Get ready for more stringent privacy protection in Québec!

Bill 64 provides for a more stringent privacy protection that will impact businesses. Among other things, they will need to create a position for a privacy officer, adopt privacy policies and practices, report any breach of confidentiality and set up specific risk analyses.

From a Blue Team perspective

We had the pleasure of hosting Rino Lagacé, former Blue Team Leader at National Bank of Canada, at the first edition of the Forensik Conference. He explained to us how his incident response team was structured within the financial institution, what role each person played and how the company had gained maturity in managing cyber incidents. Listen to this interview on INTRASEC, In Fidem’s cybersecurity channel.
